SCAM ALERT
I wanted to alert the public about a scam one of my clients almost fell for. He received an email that said it was from me but was not my correct email address. It had my name in the email address but was not an email I use or have ever used but it was made to look like mine. The client is about to go and sign his documents and the email asked him to reply to that email and they would provide wire instructions and that the money for closing needed to be wired immediately so there would be no delay in closing. THIS WAS A SCAM!!!!
Fist off a loan officer or Realtor should never provide you with wire instructions only the Title Company, Escrow Officer, or Attorney should every provide you with a wire instruction. And when they do it should come in a secured email. Or better yet get the wire instruction in person. I always have my buyers send the money to my closings in Nevada after they sign, just in case something goes wrong.
If my client would of followed the instructions on the email his money would of been GONE FOREVER. Most likely impossible to get back.
So be careful when wiring money and make sure the source of the email and wire instructions is correct. Call the agency that sent the wire instructions to make sure that it is correct and it is not FRAUD!
